Kyiv, September 21, 2006 -- IDC announces the results of DSC market research in Ukraine in the first half-year of 2006. According to the company's estimates, DSC shipments to the country grew for 68% comparing the same period of the last year to reach 224,000 units.

According to IDC, users' preferences continue to shift to the DSCs with higher resolution sensors. This process is stimulated by vendors which introduced a large number of attractively-priced models with five and more megapixel resolution during the last year. In the first half-year of 2006 the market share of DSCs with five and more megapixel sensors increased to 88%, comparing 45% for the same period of 2005.

"5- and 6-megapixel cameras made the main contribution to the market growth, but it also should be noted that the sales of DSCs with 7 and more megapixel sensors increased for several times comparing first half-year of 2005", – says Alexey Gvozdenko, IDC Ukraine research analyst.

IDC also reports the dramatic growth in the digital SLR camera market: the shipments of D-SLRs to Ukraine increased more than twice in 1H'2006 comparing the same period of the last year.

IDC research indicates that Ukrainian digital still camera market is the fourth-largest in the Central and Eastern Europe now (behind Russia, Poland and Czech Republic). If it will continue to grow with same rate, there is a big chance that it will become the third-largest in the CEE region in the whole 2006.
